28th Sunday Children’s Chess Tournament 29 November
Thirteen players contested the last Sunday Children’s Chess Tournament for 2009.
It was also the final round of the 2009 Grand Prix Tournament so there was plenty of excitement as only two points separated the top three scorers to date.
Nathanael Tomlinson of Maryborough was placed first in the Tournament with a blistering win of seven out of seven games. He was followed by Timothy Harris with five and a half games and Anish Preshy third with four and a half games.
In the 2009 Grand Prix, Anish Preshy gained first place with 34.5 points closely followed by his sister Aishwarya with 33.5 points. Matthew Riggs gainde31.5 points and Timothy Harris gained fourth place with 31 points.
There were a few upsets on the day. Timothy Harris defeated Anish Preshy and Brandon Lowe and gained a draw with Aishwarya Preshy (three top Secondary School players) and young Allen Preshy defeated Madalyn Hepenstall (a top Primary School player)

The next Sunday Tournament will be on 31 January 2010 and this will also be the first round of the 2010 Grand Prix Tournament.
Sunday Children’s Chess Tournament 25 October 09
Only eight competitors competed in the Sunday Children’s Chess Tournament held on 25 October. The reason for the low attendance was due to some of the children who normally play in the Sunday Tournaments being in
Matthew Riggs was top scorer of the day with a perfect seven out of seven games. He was closely followed by Rhys Mortensen with six out of seven games.
The event was played as a Round Robin Tournament instead of a Swiss tournament owing to the number of entrants.
The next Sunday Children’s Chess Tournament will be held on 29 November when the last round of the yearly Grand Prix will be played. Interest will be keen as there are only three and a half points separating the four top scoring Grand Prix competitors at this stage.

Bundaberg 26th Sunday School Children’s Chess Tournament 30 August 09
Twenty two children competed in the 26th Sunday School Children’s Chess Tournament at the
Top scorer for the day with a perfect score of seven out of seven games was Nathanael Tomlinson from Maryborough. Nathaneal is recognized as one of the top Secondary School players in Maryborough. Four players scored five out of seven games, namely Aishwarya Preshy, Brandon Lowe, Anish Preshy and Tim Harris. Aishwarya and Anish are top Secondary School players. There were many close games and the standard of chess in the area continues to increase month after month said Bundaberg Chess Club Secretary Allan Menham. The children all use chess clocks in the competition.
The chess clubs in the schools give children ample opportunity to learn and practice Chess. Members of the Bundaberg Chess Club Inc teach chess voluntarily at many of the district schools.

Club Secretary Allan Menham said that the standard of chess amongst the children of Bundaberg just continues to improve month after month. This is no doubt due to the numerous chess clubs in many of the District Schools. Many of these school clubs are coached free of cost by members of the Bundaberg Chess Club Inc

Nineteen children competed in the Sunday School Children’s Chess Tournament held at the
Top scorer of the day was Aishwarya Preshy who won 5.5 games out of seven. She was closely followed by Dylan Hepenstall, Rhys Mortensen, Tim Harris and Anish Preshy all with five games out of seven.
There were many close games and the standard of chess in Bundaberg amongst the children just goes from strength to strength, Club Secretary Allan Menham said.
The five children named above performed very creditably in the second round of the Wide Bay North Chess Championships held on Wednesday 27 May.
The next Sunday School Children’s Chess Tournament will be held on the last Sunday in July.
Members of the Bundaberg Chess Club Inc coach at many of the School Chess Clubs in Bundaberg on a voluntary basis.
Sunday School Children’s Chess Tournament held on 26 April 2009
HOLT WINS AGAIN
Sixteen Children competed in the Sunday School Children’s Chess Tournament held on 26 April.
Daniel Holt won again with a grand slam score of seven out of seven games. He has now won three Sunday tournaments in a row with seven out of seven games each time which shows he is one of the strongest secondary school chess players in Bundaberg.
He was followed by Nathanael Tomlinson of Maryborough with a score of six out of seven games. Third place was gained by Anish Preshy with five out of seven games.
There was a tie for fourth place with four players, namely Timothy Harris, Aishwarya Preshy, Rhys Mortensen and Patrick Harris all winning four out of seven games.
Club Secretary Allan Menham said that many of the players at this tournament will be competing in the second round of the Wide Bay North Chess Finals to be held on 27th May.
Allan also said that there were many close games at this tournament and the standard of chess amongst the school children of Bundaberg just continues to improve month by month. Many schools have active chess clubs which are coached by Members of the Bundaberg Chess Club Inc on a voluntary basis.
22nd Sunday School Childrens Chess Tournament 29 March 09
Sixteen children competed in the 22nd Sunday School Children’s Chess Tournament at the
Competition was keen. The top scorer for the day was Daniel Holt, with a perfect score of seven out of seven games. Daniel also scored seven out of seven games at the February tournament. He is without any doubt one of the top Secondary School Chess Players in Bundaberg!!
Second place went to Anish Preshy with five out of seven games and third place went to Rhys Mortensen, also with five out of seven games.
Club Secretary Allan Menham said that the children are continuing to improve month by month. Some of the players at this tournament will be competing in the under 1200 division of the Queensland Championships over Easter.
Many of the games were of a high standard.
SUNDAY SCHOOL CHILDREN'S CHESS TOURNAMENT 22 FEBRUARY 09
Seventeen children competed in the 21st Sunday School Children’s Chess Tourney held at the

Mr J Dempsey MLA attended the Tournament and officially presented to the Bundaberg Chess Club, the digital clocks, DVD’s and monitor purchased from a grant made available through the Gambling Community Benefit Fund.
Interest in chess is increasing in Bundaberg and many schools now have active chess clubs.

Top scorer for the day was Daniel Holt with 6.5 games out of seven followed by Ziah Mayne in second place also with 6.5 games out of seven. Nathaneal Tomlinson, Matthew Riggs and Aishwarya Preshy all scored five games out of seven.
The Grand Prix Competition which started in February also concluded at this tournament. The Grand Prix winner was Ziah Mayne, with Daniel Holt (second) Anish Preshy (third) and Nathaneal Tomlinson (fourth)

The next Sunday School Childrens Chess Tournament will be held on 22 February next year. The 2009 Grand Prix Competition will also commence on that day.

Sunday 26 October 2008 (the seventh for 2008!!) at Bundaberg State High School. Registration 8.30am to 9.15am. First game to start at 9.30am. Last game starts about 1 pm. Seven round Swiss. For further information please contact Allan on 0417073094. A playing fee of $5 per child is charged for the day. As the Bundaberg State High School generously makes the venue available free of charge, the total of all playing fees received (less a small amount retained towards the Grand Prix prizes for the year) is paid out to the winning children in the three playing divisions. Each playing division has a first, second and third place. There is also a lucky cash door prize!! The three playing divisions are:
Children born in 1996 and after
Children born in 1994 and 1995
Children born in 1993 and before
(Divisions may vary depending on the number of entries in each age group)
Prizes (based on twenty-three competitors entering the tournament) are $15, $10, and $5 in each playing division. If there are more than twenty three competitors, the prize money is increased. If there is less than twenty-three competitors, the prize money is decreased.
No tuck shop is operated on a Sunday so children should bring their own lunches. Tea and coffee is available for purchase. Cold water is available .
Parents are encouraged and welcome to come and watch their children play.
There are numerous free draws for competitors who can win vouchers from McDonalds and Red Rooster.
Director of Play is normally the Club President and the Games Controller is normally the Club Secretary. The decision of the Director of Play is final in any game decisions.
The tourneys from February to November are conducted as a Grand Prix Tourney with large cash prizes for the top scorers over the period. A small amount is retained from each Sunday's takings towards the cash prizes for the top scorers over the period. A child does not have to attend every tourney during the period to be elegible for the Grand Prix prizes. The seven winners will be determined on the total number of games won during the period, A draw scores half a point.
